On December 26, 2010 ten people left from four different States dodging snowstorms and delays to go to Kenya for fifteen days. Ten people with different backgrounds, experiences, expectations and passions came together with Tin Roof Society to reach as wide and deep as we could in our 360 hours on the ground in Kenya. Despite four weather re-routings, one major snowstorm and an overnight in Dubai everyone arrived safely for one common mission.
Tin Roof’s primary objective was to partner with K-Krew in their end- of -year Totally Sold Out event that hosts over 14,000 teens and young adults in Nairobi. Over one hundred artists performed in three separate venues at a large church while the masses danced, watched, cheered and heard truth. While Totally Sold Out was our reason for coming, God saw fit to open up doors to many more ministry opportunities.
During our fifteen days we partnered with 9 separate organizations, ministered in 9 different programs and ministries in 7 towns / cities across Kenya. Our team was a boundless, source of energy and service and truly represented well partnering in very real and needed ways.
In our 360 hours we saw 14,000 young people experience a God-centered New Year, while millions more watched via television. We sat with and loved on street kids and former street kids as they battled to make it to the next day and stay off the streets. We watched as lives were transformed at school events, church services and when DJ’s stopped to listen to drunks pour out their need for Jesus. We painted 15 plus sets of nails, picked up 1,000’s of pieces of trash, opened and poured 100’s of bottles of soda, prayed with many hurting and downcast and were inspired by a generation of tens of thousands of young, passionate followers of Christ.
All of these numbers filter down to one Reason. We do all this because we believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that our Jesus is worth sharing and once shared, He redeems, revives and transforms those He touches. He is worth ALL of our energy and days and we hope that you too have found this One Reason to live wide open and passionately.
