The Koonces
Shawn is the founder and president of Tin Roof Society. Before Tin Roof, Shawn served as a youth pastor in Texas, and worked as a missionary in Nairobi, Kenya, where sports and youth ministry were important aspects of his outreach. Until recently, Shawn served as the Missions and Youth Pastor at First Baptist Church in Medina, OH. He is passionate about connecting people to empower them to advance causes and projects they believe in. He communicates regularly with students and adults how their lives matter, and shows them how to use their gifts to be actively involved in what God is doing throughout the world.
Whitney is a native Texan who has done her own world travels. She has worked in Brazil, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya with a variety of missions and humanitarian organizations. Whitney has a heart for the most at risk in the world and is especially passionate to see generational cycles of poverty broken. She is able to use her degrees in Psychology and Sociology to assess and assist wisely in a broad cross-section of cultures.
It was their love for Africa that intersected Whitney and Shawn's lives in 2009, while Whitney was in Uganda and Shawn was in the early stages of Tin Roof Society development. Whitney and Shawn officially joined forces as husband and wife in February of 2011, and now work full-time with Tin Roof Society. They reside in Chippewa Lake, Ohio.
