Completed 2010-11 Trips

Team at the Equator in
Nanyuki, Kenya.
June 2011 Kenya Trip Report
June 2 - 16, 2011 - Our team from Texas A&M landed in Nairobi, Kenya and hit the ground moving. Their primary focus was to train and empower school teachers with training tools and techniques as well as interact with the students in four separate schools. The reports received back from the headmasters were more like rave reviews and we are so thankful for our team members who went above and beyond. From hauling water from rivers to teaching purity classes and taking time to really know our hosts this team truly understands what it means to immerse yourself and learn as you help. Special thanks to our team leaders Josh and Kendon Hackworth for a fantastic trip. You can see some recent pics by linking to our trip leader, Josh Hackworth's Albums on Facebook. To read about what our Team was up to in Kenya, get the inside scoop from our team members, Crissy, at her Trip Blog or Morgan at her Trip Blog

Totally Sold Out (Nairobi, Kenya) Report
December 26, 2010 - January 10, 2011 During our fifteen days we partnered with 9 separate organizations, ministered in 9 different programs and ministries in 7 towns / cities across Kenya. Our team was a boundless, source of energy and service and truly represented well partnering in very real and needed ways.
In our 360 hours we saw 14,000 young people experience a God-centered New Year, while millions more watched via television. We sat with and loved on street kids and former street kids as they battled to make it to the next day and stay off the streets. We watched as lives were transformed at school events, church services and when DJ’s stopped to listen to drunks pour out their need for Jesus. We painted 15 plus sets of nails, picked up 1,000’s of pieces of trash, opened and poured 100’s of bottles of soda, prayed with many hurting and downcast and were inspired by a generation of tens of thousands of young, passionate followers of Christ.
Jinja, Uganda Trip Report
October 7-21, 2010 Tin Roof partnered with Elevare' International to work on the Mashah Village project in Jinja, uganda. Located on a small peninsula in the Nile River this beautiful piece of land is surrounded by poverty and need that is desperate and apparent. Our original intent was to go and construct pre-fabricated houses, but God saw fit to allow the container they were shipped in to be delayed. We improvised along with Elevare' and were able to do some very practical projects including constructing a small bridge for children to cross when washing clothes and also a clothesline for the area women to hang their clothes when drying, thus speeding up the drying process and allowing them more time with their children. We were also able to finance the repair of the Wakisi Village water well that was broken, leaving hundreds without clean water. We were joined by our partners K-Krew from Nairobi who came to perform and share the Gospel in area schools as we went school to school sharing about Christ. It was an amazing trip and many were helped because of the generosity of others. The Mashah Village houses finally arrived in Jinja in early December and will hopefully soon be constructed for the destitute children of the area.
Nairobi and Western Province, Kenya Trip Report: July and August of 2010 Tin Roof linked up with three different organizations: 1) Made In The Streets (Nairobi); 2) MissionLink (Western Kenya); and 3) Tumaini Miles of Smiles Center (Western Kenya). Made In The Streets works primarily with hurting street children. MissionLink and Tumaini work with destitute children in the rural areas of Kenya. Our team completed a total of 5 clinics during this project. Primarily, the focus of this trip was high-risk kids and families. Tin Roof and traveling partners connected these patients with Kenyan medical professionals who are able to perform long-term care after our departure.
